Have Questions About In-Home Care? We’ve Got Answers!

When searching for in-home care services, it’s natural to have questions about the types of care, caregiver training, costs, and more.

To help you find the answers you need, our team of professional caregivers has compiled a list of some of our most frequently asked questions.

We are proud to serve seniors and families throughout the North Shore of Massachusetts, including Lynnfield, Woburn, Stoneham, Winchester, Danvers, Melrose, and the surrounding towns. Visit our Service Area page for a full list of the communities we serve.

Our team provides a wide range of in-home care services designed to allow seniors to remain independent at home and in the community. This includes: companion care services, 24/7 care, home health aides, personal care, transportation, respite care, homemaker services, and more. Visit our Services page for a full list of the services we provide.

When arranging for home care services, the more notice we have, the better. That way, we can do an in-home assessment and create a customized plan of care that will meet the person’s full range of needs. However, for those in need of urgent care, we can arrange services as soon as the next day, depending on necessity and availability.

Because home care services are tailored to each person’s needs, we discuss pricing after we fully understand the type and amount of care you or your loved one requires. Please feel free to call anytime to review your needs, and we will gladly provide pricing.

We do not require a minimum of hours. Our pricing will vary based on the length and frequency of services.

We accept private pay via cash, check, or credit card. Additionally, many of our clients are eligible for assistance through the MA Home Care Program. Contact your local ASAP for more information.

Some long-term care insurance or Medicare Advantage plans may pay for home care services. Contact your insurance company to find out if your plan offers home care coverage.

While home care agency licensing is not currently required in Massachusetts, legislation on the issue is pending. Abernathy Home Care supports the legislation and is prepared to comply. The Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs oversees our agency’s contracts and regularly reviews and audits the stringent contracting process.

We are serious about the safety and security of everyone we serve. All our caregivers must pass thorough criminal background, nurse aide registry, Office of Inspector General (OIG) Medicare fraud, driving record, and reference checks. We also check each applicant against the Massachusetts State Aid exclusion list to ensure that we hire safe, experienced, and reliable care providers.

Abernathy Home Care is family-founded and owned, treating each client we serve as we would a member of our own family. Our focus is on high-quality care and meaningful employment opportunities rather than corporate profits. We have pride in our profession, and believe home care is an essential service and that aging in place is an option everyone should have.
